Manx Telecom Vikings Men vs Bramhall HC Sunday 21st November

Manx Telecom Vikings Mens team head to Greater Manchester this Sunday to take on Bramhall HC from the outskirts of Stockport, in the 3rd round of the England Hockey Trophy.

Bramhall are a Club with a great heritage having been formed over a 100 years ago and they are having a good season, being well placed in the North League Division 2 West with a record of played 8, won 5, drawn 1, lost 2. They are averaging 3 goals a game, but have conceded nearly as many.

3 weeks ago they defeated Liverpool Sefton 6 - 2 in the league, this was the team Vikings knocked out in the last round after a penalty shoot out. Vikings will need to keep a close eye on Bramhall's leading goal scorer Pete Corrigan who notched a hat trick in that game, and penalty corner specialist
Simon Livingstone.

Unfortunately Vikings will be missing several players for this trip, including influential midfielder and hat trick hero against Sefton, Conor Byrne and goal scorer Gerry Quinn. However, if the Manx side can repeat the great team effort of the previous round, then they could pull off another surprise.

After a stunning early season victory in the final of the Wi - Manx Cup, Vikings league form has been patchy due in part to injury and unavailability of key players. This has seen them slip out of contention in the Premier League.

Captain Andrew Harding said " We are looking forward to the trip and expecting a very tough game, but if we can show the same form as we did against Sefton then you never know what could happen. Our style of play creates lots of scoring opportunities, and whilst Bramhall do score a lot of goals, they concede plenty as well - we just need to take our chances."

Ladies A storm into round 2 of the EHA Vase

Ladies A secured their place in the second round of the England Hockey Women’s Vase tournament with a comfortable victory away to Ambleside at the weekend.

Having arrived at the venue in the nick of time and completed a swift warm-up, Vikings took a little while to settle down. Ambleside displayed good skills and had the majority of the early possession.

Vikings then won a series of short corners, with Kirsty Cooper scoring the first goal of the game on the third attempt. In quick succession Cooper then converted a good attack into the circle with an quick shot on the turn.

Vikings scored another, early in the second half, when the ball was sent wide by Kim Carney to Louise Slater and after numerous challenges she managed to squeeze the ball through the keeper’s legs.

From another short corner, Cooper's strike rebounded off the keeper and Captain Kim Carney swooped in front of goal and slotted home the loose ball. Ambleside’s heads went down after this and the previous good play that had produced a great game slowly disappeared.

With goal number five being slotted in from five metres out, Carney completed her hat-trick with a run down the left hand side from a well-timed ball from Danielle Coombes, finding her path through the defenders to strike it home into the bottom right corner.

A ball right from the back then found Rebecca Harding, who played the ball into space at the top of the circle, finding Zoe Carney who blasted it into the top left hand corner of the net. This was the final act in a good spirited match and Manx Telecom Vikings Ladies A await the second round draw on Monday evening.

MOM - Louise Slater for her "electrifying" performance.

DOTD - Kitty Henry for her comedy on field dive.

Well done ladies & good luck in the next round.
